About us

The Alberta Filipino Charter School is a historic initiative that began with a powerful vision, one rooted in the dreams of the Filipino Academic and Cultural Educators Society (F.A.C.E.S.). Founded by Grace Alarcon-Isla and advised by Dr. Josephine Pallard, F.A.C.E.S. was among the earliest advocates for culturally responsive education. Together, they envisioned a school where Filipino identity, heritage, and language could thrive alongside academic excellence.

That foundational vision has since grown into a province-wide movement. Dr. Pallard and Grace Isla-Alarcon were also instrumental in engaging Alberta Education, whose encouragement helped pave the way for a formal charter school application process.

With momentum built through years of advocacy and community engagement, a new chapter began: the formation of the Alberta Filipino Charter School Board. This dedicated group of volunteers, educators, parents, and community leaders is now working together to bring this long-held dream to life.

Though the school is still in development, our purpose is clear, to create a publicly funded charter school that reflects and uplifts the Filipino experience while fully aligning with Alberta’s curriculum.

This is not just about opening a school. It is about honoring where we came from, empowering where we are now, and building where we want our children to go.

Culturally Grounded Vision

Our goal is to create a school that uplifts Filipino identity through language, heritage, and shared community values while fully aligning with Alberta’s curriculum.

Led by Community, For the Community

From the school board to volunteers, this initiative is powered by parents, educators, and advocates who want to see Filipino students thrive in a space they can call their own.
